P1 Grades are available: How to write a Revision Memo

At this point, you should have received your final grade for Project #1. However, you might not be done with Project #1. Now is the time to determine how you feel about your grade and whether you are comfortable with the grade you received or if you wish to make the necessary changes to increase your grade.

I have assembled a Revision Memo. On this form you must explain in your own words the feedback you received on Draft 3 and what changes you plan to make. A revision could make up half of the points remaining on that draft, but only if you make substantial revision. Don't expect to earn all the points for the placement of one comma.

If you lost points because you submitted something late, those points cannot be made up.

Revision Memos should be emailed to me before 11:59 pm on MONDAY, NOV 4. (earlier I had posted the Revision Memos were due Oct 30. They are now due Nov 4). I will review your memo and respond with any additional comments AND a new deadline for when you should have your 4th draft posted to your Wix website. If you have scheduling conflicts or want to select your own deadline, make note of it in the Revision Memo and I will consider it. At the end of the semester ALL of your drafts should be posted to your Wix page, so if you revise, you will have 4 drafts instead of 3.

This week we have conferences. If you wish to discuss your P1 grade, I am happy to, but remember that cuts into your time receiving feedback on P2. If you have not signed up for a P2 conference, you should do so NOW and know that spaces are limited.

This week's Twitter Assignment:

You are in charge of your own Twitter content. You must Tweet 10 times. Retweets do not count, but conversations do.

At this point, I am looking ahead to Project 3, which is a project which contains many parts. The primary one is writing an original narrative. Next week, I will start posting lectures with more information about narratives, but in the meantime, I want you to start looking at Short Story Narratives so you can become more comfortable with the form.

I am offering Extra Credit for students who set up a reading blog on their class Wix page. I have posted nine different Short Story examples under our Resources tab. You can select up to 5 to review for the extra credit. (I will not award points for any posts over 5). In order to receive extra credit, you must read the whole short story. In 500 words per post, you must: summarize the plot in one dynamic sentence, identify the subgenre, explain how the writer fulfilled the genre conventions without being cliche, explain how the writer used organization and sentence mechanics (paragraph breaks, sentence structure, punctuation, word choice, verb choice, etc) to advance the plot, deepen the story, or trigger your emotions. Each post is worth 20 points. TO BE CLEAR: 500 words minimum per post! All blogs must be posted before November 8.

Adding a blog is simple, some of you already have them on your Wix page. I will not host Wix tutorials via Twitter if you hit a snag. You would need to set up an Office Hours appointment or visit the Digital Studio.

Don't Forget:

We are meeting this week to discuss Project #2 draft. Not uploading a draft or missing the call results in 2 absences, zero feedback, and zero participation points.
