Project #3

What's the name of your Narrative?

Post your narrative at the top of the page, where the viewer can begin to read it without needing to scroll to fin the text. Also, make sure your page includes your advertisements as artwork.

If you are using a video or audio file for your narrative, embed the player on the page. Sound Cloud and You Tube videos are easily played on Wix. Go to the add section on the left and you will find players for audio and video.

Remember that when you are working with text-based modes, like short stories or poems, do not get fancy with the fonts. Your narrative will not be successful if no one can read it. Text based modes are usually published using either Times New Roman font or Helvetica font. The same can be said about the colors on the page. For text-based modes, use black text on a white background.

In the prompt, it asks you to build a page for the narrative you have crafted. Consider what is the purpose and genre conventions of a website. A website is designed so viewers will not only go there but so viewers will stay there. Consider how a website like Netflix is designed. When a subscriber goes to the site, they are given many options for exploration: links to click on, descriptions of films, categories of movies, and all accessible from the main page: all a reader has to do is scroll. Many viewers will comment that the best part of Netflix is looking for the movie or series to watch. And once you decide to watch something, as soon as it is over, the website offers another film to watch, or the next episode of the series is already ready to play in 5, 4, 3, 2, go.  The designers of this website never give its viewer a reason to ever leave.

A website is like a house. You are building a house and you are inviting your friends over. Anyone who has thrown a party knows that as soon as a guest becomes bored, they will leave. A good host makes sure to have plenty of refreshments, entertainment, and seating for their guests. Give your viewer things to look at, to click on (without taking them away from your site), things to read, things to watch. Create a house they never want to leave.

Process note and report:

This is the space where you would post your 1,000 word report. This report is the one major writing project which can be written in 1st person.
This report is broken into three parts: the process note, and the promotion plan.
The process note acts as a map where you inform the reader of your campaign why you chose it.

Answer these questions:

  • What is the name of your campaign and what is its intention?

  • What were your genres?

  • What was the intended audience?

  • Why are these genres appropriate for your audience? Why would they appeals to these individuals?

  • What rhetorical strategies were involved in the completion of my project?

  • What programs and tools did you utilize to complete this project?

Next, is the promotion plan. Consider these questions:

  • Where did you post these genres and how did you draw attention to them?

  • How many social media outlets did you utilize?

  • Where did you post your hashtag?

  • Which avenue was most successful?

  • How many people did you follow in an attempt to get them to follow you back?

  • How long have your promoted these genres?

  • When the audience did not respond, what were your next steps?

Next is the reflection period.

  • How was the composition process different for these genres than Project 2? Avoid the obvious answers like: one was written and the others were not, or which one was easier.

  • What considerations did you have to make for these genres which you did not for Project #2?

  • What was most challenging about composing Project #3 vs Project #2?

  • What advice would have have given yourself before beginning Project #2 to make Project #3 easier?
